QTOA Chairman’s Report with Peter Tighe – July

As the QTOA prepares to gather important feedback from members that will help us shape the future direction of ownership in Queensland, there has never been a better time to become a QTOA Member.
Our upcoming 2022 Owners Survey will give all members, including those that have signed up for our free membership, a voice on industry matters, while paid members also receive the opportunity to vote at our AGM on key decisions including board and director nominations.
From October 1 we will be adding to the offering for paid members with the introduction of enhanced Member Packs which will include apparel, access to tickets and offers from our growing stable of commercial partners.
On top of our member only survey which will cover some of the big ticket items around what members want for the racing industry, we will also be introducing regular member forums and webinars which will help educate owners and provide another platform for owners to deliver regular feedback on the industry.
We also intend to deliver both raceday and non-raceday events for members over the next 12 months including stallion parades and information nights.
We encourage all Queensland owners to jump on board as a member of the QTOA.

Key industry figures are united on what consultation needs to look like between all stakeholders, Racing Queensland and the Government moving forward.
All areas of the industry need to have the ability to provide input into a range of different matters, headlined by the distribution of the recently increased Point of Consumption (POC) Tax.
In our meetings with owners and key stakeholders in regional Queensland in recent months, it is clear that area needs a stronger voice to support over 14,000 owners in that part of the state.
Queensland Breeders are also keen to sit down with Racing Queensland to discuss a review of the structure of the current Queensland Thoroughbred Incentive Scheme (QTIS).
Another topic which the industry agrees upon is that education and training right across the board is fundamental to the success of the industry moving forward.
The Thoroughbred Alliance will continue to push for greater consultation on these matters and others in the coming months.
