QTOA Chairman's Report: May 2024

Dear Members,

Together with other members of the Thoroughbred Alliance I recently attended a meeting with representatives of QRIC and Racing Queensland to discuss matters pertaining to dispute resolution.

Everyone should be aware that as owners it is advisable and ideal to ensure we have written arrangements regarding training and/or co-ownership of thoroughbreds.

Such written arrangements should, among other things, set out agreed methods for dispute resolution. In the absence of written arrangements, according to the rules of racing all parties are bound by the Standard Training agreement (STA) or the Co-Ownership Agreement (COA) which are deemed to apply.

More information about this can be found on the Racing Australia website.

Of course, as with most things, conflict and any escalations thereof are most easily avoided by strong and open ongoing communication among parties, however when this is not the case, much pain, time and cost can be avoided by having in place a strong agreement.

I encourage everyone to ensure you understand your rights and obligations.

LADBROKES LOUNGE QLD OAKS DAY WINNERS

Congratulations to the winners of the double passes to attend the exclusive Ladbrokes Lounge on Qld Oaks Day on Saturday, June 8.

We are excited to be bringing QTOA members these opportunities and we thank our partners at Ladbrokes for supporting the QTOA with initiatives like this.

Stay tuned for our next promotion for QTOA Members for the Ladbrokes Winter Racing Carnival at Cluden Park, Townsville in July.

QTOA COMMITTEE RE-APPOINTMENTS

Following on from our recent AGM, we are pleased to advise that existing QTOA committee members Ben Mannion, Di Ouston and John Horan have been re-appointed.

Their re-appointments give the QTOA important representation across Central Queensland (Di) and North Queensland (John), while Ben brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Committee having helped establish the QTOA.

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST - QLD STALLION TOUR

The QTOA is seeking expressions of interest about a possible Queensland stud tour to showcase some of the region's first season stallions.

The tour would be run in partnership with Racing Queensland and the Queensland Thoroughbred Breeders Association, along with relevant stud farms.
